The latest Census Bureau findings list Hispanics as the fastest growing minority in the U.S. As of 2000, there were 35.2 million or approximately 12.5% of the total US population. The Hispanic population is growing 8 times faster than the general population and it is estimated that by 2020, Hispanics will make up 17% of the total U.S. population.

Hispanics tend to live in metropolitan areas in the western and southern regions of the country˜New York is the exception. Of the total Hispanic population, 66% reside in the following cities:
